Astro Reach-outNext to my own research the observatory is made available to the local high schools Jac. P. Thijsse College and Bonhoeffercollege. In addition we organised a Moon-party in 2018 for a group of approximately 50 children of the primary school Cunera. In that occasion I was assisted by Rob Musquetier and Caspar Tielemans, who both brought in their own equipment (see figure 1). High school students can do their Experimental Research at InFINNity Deck, which they usually do in groups of two. So far 8 students did their research in 2018, while this has already grown to 10 for 2019. They either come up with their own ideas or I supply them. In this way already a wide variety of topics have been covered. Weather permitting the students can do the observations under my guidance, and otherwise I can supply them with the necessary data from previous observations done by myself or befriended observers. Of course the observatory is also used for visual observing and for astrophotography. National Sun Watching DaySince 2019 the Royal Netherlands Association for Meteorology and Astronomy organises an annual Sun Watching Day. Observatories all over the Netherlands, both private and public, open their doors to the public to allow them to have a look at the sun through various types of telescopes. Of course these telescopes are prepared for safe viewing or even dedicated solar telescopes like the Lunt LS80THA at InFINNity Deck. Check the Sun Watching Day page for an impression of these events at InFINNity Deck. If you have any questions and/or remarks please let me know. |
